Pickup specialist Road Ranger opts for Nuclos Open Source ERP
– Solution for purchasing, warehousing, sales and production of hardtops based on the ERP modular system
– Parts list management with far more than 1,000 variants per item
Sauerlach, June 30, 2016 – Dr. Höhn GmbH, manufacturer of “Road Ranger” brand hardtops and bodies for pickups and flatbed trucks, benefits from enterprise software based on the Nuclos open source ERP toolkit(www.nuclos.de). The medium-sized company, headquartered in Ingelfingen, Baden-Württemberg, uses it to manage all of its processes relating to sales, logistics and purchasing – and in the near future also production at the site in Poland. The modular ERP system can be used to transparently manage extensive parts lists with well over 1,000 variants per item. The time required for the introduction and adaptation of the system remained manageable at 80 man-days. The special feature: Nuclos does not incur any license costs. As a result, Dr. Höhn benefits from very low total cost of ownership (TCO) for its ERP landscape.
The modular ERP system replaces a very error-prone legacy system that did not enable consistent management along the process chain. While media disruptions and non-transparent processes were previously the order of the day, the medium-sized company now has a clear, cross-process information hub that can be used to optimally map the large number of variants. All authorized stakeholders, such as internal employees, dealers and production partners, can access a centrally managed, uniform and consistent database. The system also forms the database for the connected web store, which is used by the entire dealer network. From the creation of quotations and order processing to the generation and dispatch of invoices – Nuclos ensures transparent management and control of the entire order process.
Optimal mix of standard and individualization
For Dr. Höhn, the decisive factor in selecting an ERP system was the high degree of flexibility that an open source system like Nuclos offers. It offers exactly the right mix of standardized functions and customized business processes. Interfaces such as those to the parcel service provider UPS enable a continuous and automated logistics process chain. Nuclos also supports the automotive specialist’s expansion: thanks to its high scalability, the system can be flexibly expanded and rolled out to new sites. The medium-sized company is planning to use the modular ERP system not only at its headquarters in Ingelfingen, but also at its branch in Poland, which is responsible for sales in the Eastern European market. In the near future, the system will also be used for contact management (CRM) and event planning with partners such as wholesalers, importers and vehicle manufacturers, as well as for production planning and control (PPS), including in cooperation with affiliated production partners as part of the so-called drop shipment business.
“Nuclos offers exactly the openness and flexibility we need to adapt the system to our individual processes. Thanks to open source, we benefit from manageable costs and a high level of investment security. We would rather have invested the money for software licenses in the perfect adaptation to our processes,” explains Marc Höhn, Managing Director and co-owner of Dr. Höhn GmbH.
