Novabit introduces Nuclet Transfer for Nuclos
Exchange platform for ERP applications based on the open source ERP toolkit Nuclos
Sauerlach (Munich), October 27, 2010 – Novabit Informationssysteme GmbH introduces a new function for the open source ERP construction kit Nuclos(www.nuclos.de), thus solving a major problem of individually adapted standard ERP systems: With the “Nuclet Transfer”, companies can easily transfer their individually adapted ERP applications created on the basis of Nuclos, so-called Nuclets, to other Nuclos installations. In particular, this makes it possible to update Nuclos as the basis on which the Nuclets are built at any time (see graphic).
Until now, companies with a proprietary ERP solution have been forced to check their individual customizations individually when updating or changing the manufacturer’s release and transfer them step by step to the new release, which typically incurs high costs again. In addition, companies are often at risk of losing the manufacturer’s warranty after individual customizations.
Nuclos: Separation of technical basis and functional characteristics
“The problem with standard ERP systems is that individual technical requirements usually have to be permanently implemented in the solutions, which means that the respective system itself has to be changed if adjustments are required,” explains Ramin Göttlich, Managing Director of Novabit. Thanks to “Nuclet Transfer”, the associated effort and risks are a thing of the past for Nuclos users. This is made possible by the architecture of Nuclos: it differs fundamentally from that of proprietary ERP systems and is designed from the outset in such a way that Nuclos is strictly separated from the individual functional characteristics. As an ERP construction kit, Nuclos provides generic mechanisms for mapping any business processes. The specific processes of a company are then mapped in the so-called Nuclets, which use these mechanisms. The nuclelet thus contains the respective functional characteristics, i.e. business logic, business rules, workflows, interfaces, masks, reports, forms, roles and authorizations, etc.
Pass on or sell specialized industry solutions
This offers users the advantage over standard ERP systems that they can further develop and adapt their Nuclets independently of Nuclos at any time. No IT knowledge is required for this and the changes can be made at runtime of the system. Software maintenance and warranty remain unaffected and Nuclos can be updated with a newer version at any time. At the same time, Nuclets can be transferred to another Nuclos installation at the touch of a button. This also opens up additional opportunities for companies to amortize their development costs more quickly: Specialized industry solutions can now be easily passed on or sold to other companies. Novabit will be offering an exchange platform for this in the course of the coming year.
