BOS organizes supply chain with Nuclos Open Source ERP

System for automating sampling, quality assurance, technical documentation and project management at an automotive supplier

Sauerlach (Munich), February 16, 2012 – BOS GmbH, a leading global manufacturer of systems for vehicle interiors, is introducing integrated software for supply chain management based on the Nuclos open source ERP toolkit(www.nuclos.de). As a supplier to the automotive industry, BOS is subject to stringent compliance and documentation requirements for the sampling of vehicle parts in accordance with VDA and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process). The new application automates the sampling and documentation as well as the quality assurance of initial parts for production, brings these processes and project management together on a standardized platform, integrates external suppliers via a portal and thus ensures shorter throughput times and greater transparency in the sampling process. Thanks to the implementation with Nuclos, BOS also benefits from significantly lower development costs and a high degree of flexibility for future changes to the software.

Nuclos: ERP solutions based on the modular principle

With the free open source ERP construction kit Nuclos, companies can quickly and cost-effectively implement individual ERP solutions for all conceivable business processes. The construction kit offers an unencumbered platform on which you can map your business processes step by step and thus create a completely individual company software. The architecture of Nuclos differs fundamentally from proprietary ERP systems and is designed from the outset in such a way that the technical basis is strictly separated from the individual functional characteristics. The platform provides generic mechanisms for mapping any business processes. The specific processes of a company are then mapped in the individual applications that use these mechanisms. The application then contains the respective technical characteristics, i.e. business logic, business rules, workflows, interfaces, masks, reports, forms, roles and authorizations, etc.

„We can adapt the application to new requirements at any time, for example changes in the sampling process. We don’t need an external service provider for this; we can make the changes ourselves and during the system’s runtime,“ says Marcus Schablack, Head of Application Development at BOS. „Two of our employees were trained by Novabit for Nuclos development and configuration. This makes us very flexible and saves costs.“ Following a successful pilot phase with several suppliers, the system is now to be expanded further. There are also plans to connect it to the existing SAP system in order to be able to automatically compare parts lists and parts requirements with supplier information.
