Open source ERP continues to gain momentum

Nucleus Professional Open Source is now Nuclos Professional Open Source establishes itself as one of the most widely used open source ERP systems in Germany

Sauerlach (Munich), April 19, 2010 – The use of open source software in enterprise resource planning (ERP) is gaining momentum: Novabit Informationssysteme GmbH continues to drive the spread of open source software for individual company applications. With its ERP construction kit, recently renamed from Nucleus to Nuclos, companies can implement individual ERP systems quickly, without IT knowledge and at minimal cost. Nuclos, which has been available as open source since the end of last year, has quickly established itself in productive use at a large number of small and medium-sized companies as well as public authorities and corporations. This makes it one of the most widely used open source ERP systems in Germany.

Open Source in corporate use

Until now, open source software in the ERP sector – i.e. close to the end user – has hardly been found in companies, although it has long been established on the server side with Linux, MySQL, Apache, TYPO3, etc. “ERP applications in particular are almost exclusively dominated by proprietary systems, high licensing costs and inflexible customization options,” says Ramin Goettlich, Managing Director of Novabit. “And unfortunately, many of the existing open source ERP solutions still lack the necessary maturity and quality.” Very few of them can boast a significant number of reference installations in Germany. This is not the case with Nuclos, which has already proven itself in business-critical use at a large number of companies.

Professional Open Source

Nuclos is professional open source. This involves central coordination and quality assurance of the software by companies that do not finance themselves through license revenues, but exclusively through professional services in the area of business-critical use of the applications. Particularly in the case of systems that are as business-critical as ERP systems, this professionalization is a prerequisite for broad acceptance and for expanding the range of use of open source software to the corporate desktop. Nuclos as an ERP construction kit provides a secure framework for ERP systems that allows companies to map their own business processes within this framework without IT know-how within a few days and to adapt them at any time – supported by professional support from Novabit if required.

Downloadable Nuclos version with Wizard support from the end of May

From the end of May, Novabit will also offer a version of Nuclos for download that offers wizard support for initial steps. Until then, companies that want to free themselves from dependency on standard software can get to know Nuclos in free and non-binding online presentations and information events. Information on dates and venues can be found here.
