Without a kink in the line
Open source ERP Nuclos ensures end-to-end processes at GasLINE
Sauerlach (Munich), September 23, 2010 – GasLINE, the telecommunications network company of German gas supply companies, operates one of the largest fiber optic cable networks in Germany. The company now uses a solution based on Novabit’s Nuclos(www.nuclos.de) open source modular ERP system to map the commercial and technical processes involved in managing its fiber optic cables. As a result, GasLINE benefits from more consistent and transparent processes and a reduction in throughput times.
Nuclos replaces various IT systems, merges data from technical administration, controlling and accounting and maps the various contract types such as rental, leasing, permission, purchase and sale in detail. In addition, the system automatically carries out accounting based on the fees stored for the contracts and performance obligations. There was no standard solution on the market for these requirements. With Nuclos, Novabit offered an alternative to time-consuming individual development.
Solution based on the modular principle
The system does not provide a fixed, unchangeable range of functions, but offers mechanisms for defining these individually. To this end, the ERP construction kit already contains all the building blocks for mapping any ERP business processes and requirements for business software. These can be put together in a short time to form ready-made solutions, so-called nuclets. The ability to easily adapt and expand business processes at any time during runtime allows the system to grow in line with changing requirements.
Agile tool
In the telecommunications sector, it is particularly important to react quickly and flexibly to market requirements. GasLINE now has a software tool that maps the processes in a structured way – but can be adapted quickly and precisely to changing market and general conditions. “We have noticed improvements in the workflow and transparency of the business processes mapped with it,” says Christoph Emmerichs, responsible for business development and customer management at GasLINE. The use of the new system has improved data consistency, and billing and controlling have also been optimized.
Further development on a uniform basis
These positive effects can be reinforced in the future if further requirements are covered by Nuclos and implemented on the same basis. After the initial consolidation phase, the Nuclos system will be further developed and will then also offer solutions in the areas of customer relationship management (CRM) and order management, for example. An online interface to SAP is also planned. Nuclos will thus gradually become the core of a large number of applications at GasLINE, which will replace previous isolated solutions.
